Billy D. Sweet, 76, of Claysburg, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday June 27, 2023. He was born September 10, 1946 in Imler, son of the late Charles F. and Ruth (Bush) Sweet. He married Patti Musselman on May 10, 1985 at Old Bedford Village.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter Crystal Weaver (Erik) of Altoona, a son Travis Sweet (Heidi) of Claysburg, grandchildren Teiha, Gracie, Braiden, Bryce, Alexis, Morgan, Emma, Owen, and Colton.
Billy was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Church, Altoona. He was a 1964 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School. He retired from the PA Turnpike as a toll collector after many years of service and was previously employed at PennDOT.
Billy was a long time member of the Claysburg Volunteer Fire Co. and the Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association. He was also a Vice President of the Blair County NAACP. He enjoyed anything railroad related.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Friday June 30, 2023 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday July 1, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Altoona with Monsignor Michael Becker officiating. Interment at Claysburg Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Fire Company at PO Box 292, Claysburg.
