Don Wayne Ickes, 82, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday November 28, 2023 at UPMC-Altoona. He was born October 20, 1941, in Pavia, son of the late Harry D. and Iva D. (Corle) Ickes.
Surviving is his longtime friend Roy Lee Smelser, brother Allen and wife Linda Ickes, sister-in-law Dorothy “Sis” Ickes, nephews Todd, Brian, Scott, Chris, Brandon and Ryan Ickes and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Rubert K. Ickes.
Don Wayne was a 1959 graduate of Bedford High School and served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Carling Black Label Brewing, Baltimore MD and was previously employed at Schumacker and Seiler Plumbing, at a school cafeteria and McCormick’s, all in the Baltimore area.
Don Wayne enjoyed participating in the Young at Heart Games, winning gold, silver and bronze medals, bowling at the Elks Club in Bedford and tending to his garden and flowers.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Friday December 1, 2023 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday December 2, 2023 at the funeral home with Pastor James Neatrour officiating. Interment at Bedford County Memorial Park.
