Joan Gonsman, 88, of Claysburg. passed away Monday September 12, 2022 at home. She was born July 11, 1934 in Philipsburg, daughter of the late Jack and Margaret (Botwright) Stratton. She married Richard “Dick” Gonsman on March 17, 1953 in Cumberland, MD.
Surviving is her husband, a son Dr. Richard A. Gonsman and wife Dottie of Hollidaysburg, a daughter Susan Joan Gonsman-Burket of Queen, four grandchildren Cody Burket of East Freedom, Brian Gonsman of Blue Knob, Mark Gonsman of Truckie, CA and Julie Gonsman of Elizabethtown, two great grandchildren Liam and Evan Buterbaugh of Elizabethtown and a brother Jim Stratton of Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by a brother Jack Stratton and a sister Judy Hummer.
Joan was a 1952 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School. She retired as a mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 25 years of service.
Joan was a member of the Claysburg United Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, sewing and puzzles.
Friends will be received from 5-8 P.M. Monday September 19, 2022 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday September 20, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor Calvin Miller officiating. Interment at Alto-Reste Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to her church or the Claysburg Area Public Library.
