Linda Marie (Summers) Ayers, 74, of Roaring Spring, until recently living in Martinsburg, PA passed away Saturday, November 22, 2025 at UPMC-Altoona. She was born on September 24, 1951 to the late Melvin and Kathryn (Grabill) Summers in Roaring Spring. She was raised on the family farm in rural Martinsburg.
She married Denny (Dennis) Dean Ayers on January 31, 1970. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2025. They were married for 55 years of true love and devotion.
She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters “my girls”: Sabrina R. Ayers Fisher and husband Mark Fisher of Queen Creek, AZ and Samantha R. (Ayers) Snowberger and husband Russell Snowberger of East Freedom, PA, and grandchildren Sara R. and Levi G. Snowberger.
She was the youngest of twelve siblings. Her surviving siblings are Wayne Summers (Nancy), Walter Summers, Janet Pheasant, Charles Summers (Peggy), and Richard Summers. She was preceded in death by John Summers, Herbert Summers, Harold Summers, Ralph Summers, and Gerald “Bill” Summers. She shares the same death day with her beloved late sister Kathryn “Joanne” Defibaugh, who passed away last year.
She grew in faith as a child to adulthood in the body of Christ at Mt. Pleasant Church, rural Martinsburg, where she served on the Consistory as deacon, a member of the Women's Guild, youth group leader, and Sunday school teacher. For about the past 19 years, she was a member of the Christ Church, Roaring Spring, where she also served as deacon of the Consistory, a member of Women In God's Service (WINGS), youth group leader, Sunday school teacher, and volunteer part-time secretary.
Linda was a 1969 graduate of Central High School and worked throughout her life as a typesetter at the Morrison Cove Herald, a florist, and a meat clerk at Rhodes Meat Market.
Linda was active throughout the years in the Cove Relay for Life, best known for her team “Winna’s Friends” and was honored to serve as the first Ambassador. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor, providing inspiration, encouragement, comfort, and faith to other cancer patients, survivors, and their families. She was known for her warmth, outgoing personality, sense of humor, laughter, and undeniable loving spirit.
Linda enjoyed the needle arts, especially cross-stich, playing cards, reading, collecting nutcrackers, hummingbirds, bible study, watching movies and TV mysteries, and taking naps with her cherished cat Smudge.
Family and friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Christ Church 7524 Woodbury Pike, Roaring Spring.
Her funeral day will be Saturday, December 6, 2025, beginning with the internment service at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Martinsburg/Millerstown.
Followed by the funeral service at Christ Church with Rev. Dr. Joel Kletzing at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Contributions in memory of Linda may be given to Christ Church or Christmas poinsettias of any color may be sent to the church.
