Louis Paul Mauk, 80, of Claysburg, passed away Thursday February 17, 2022 at home. He was born February 13, 1942 in Sproul, son of the late Joseph D. Mauk and Norma Belle (Dellinger) Mauk-Glass, and was raised in the home of his grandparents Ambrose and Lillie Dellinger. He married Janet Weaver July 15, 1961 in Newry.
Surviving is his wife, two sons Paul “Chip” Mauk and wife Cindy of Imler, Dave Mauk and wife Missy of Claysburg, a daughter Jackie Eberhart and husband Steve of Claysburg, nine grandchildren Mandee Cook, Nikki Mauk, Christi Mauk, Justin Mauk, Janelle Barroner, Tristan Mauk, Ben Eberhart, Morgan Dutil and Luke Eberhart, five great grandchildren Kenan Cook, Quintin and Kambri Barroner, Stella Dutil and Ozzy Eberhart, two brothers Jack Mauk (Claudia) of Claysburg and Jacob Glass in California, sisters-in-law Connie Mauk and Jeanie Decker (Eugene) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Samuel Mauk and step father Thomas Glass.
Lou was a 1960 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School. He retired from Harbison Walker, Sproul Plant in 2004 after 35 years of service. He was also a barber for many years.
Lou was a member of St. Thomas More Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, and attended St. Patrick’s Church.
He coached Little League, Teener League and Legion Baseball, softball and elementary girls basketball, and was a member of numerous pool leagues for many years. He was a member of the Sproul Beegle Club, the Beaver Dam Rod and Gun Club and a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion, Claysburg.
Lou enjoyed hunting, Pirate and Steeler games, Duke basketball, playing cards, gambling at Casinos and was a Jeff Gordon fan. He never missed any of his children’s or grandchildren’s events and he was a “Pap” to everyone.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Monday February 21, 2022 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday February 22, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Church, Newry, Father Allen P. Zeth officiating. Entombment at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
