Russell G. Shaffer, 84, of King, passed away Tuesday February 11, 2025 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 17, 1940, in Osterburg, son of the late Roy R. and Ethel N. (Brumbaugh) Shaffer. He married Sandra Dellinger on June 27, 1974 in Queen.
Surviving is his wife, a son Matthew Shaffer and wife Katie, granddaughters Meg and Molly, a brother Harold Shaffer, nieces Karen Mosser and husband Drew, and their son Kasey, Carolyn O’Keefe and husband John, and their children Tessa and Caleb, and brother-in-law Roger Dellinger and wife Signe, and their children, Terry (Jodi). Eric (Lynette) and Allen (Beth) Dellinger.
Russell was a 1958 graduate of Greenfield-Kimmel High School and attended Catawba College in Salisbury NC for two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He retired from Norfolk Southern after 30 years of service, and was previously employed at Puritan.
Russell was a member of St. Mark’s Reformed Church. King, where he held various offices, currently serving as Treasurer of the Cemetery Association, and he also attended the Queen United Methodist Church.
Russell was an avid sports fan, especially the Steelers, Pirates and Penn State. He was a baseball coach for many years and always encouraged his players. He was a member of the Claysburg American Legion and served as Business Manager for the Legion baseball team.
Friends will be received from 2-5 P.M. on Sunday February 16, 2025 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday February 17, 2025 at St. Mark’s Reformed Church, King with Pastors James Neatrour and Brad Allison officiating. Interment at St. Mark’s Cemetery, King.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Claysburg American Legion Baseball Team.
