Ruth Helen (Burket) Hoenstine, 93 of Martinsburg, formerly of Claysburg peacefully passed away on February 12, 2022. Ruth was born on February 11, 1929 in Claysburg PA, daughter of the late Elwood Abram “Abe” and Katherine (Stonerook) Burket. On August 5, 1950 in Winchester Virginia, she married the light of her life Richard L. Hoenstine following a marriage proposal on a fishing outing. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2000.
Ruth is survived by sons David (Libby) Hoenstine and Doak (Brenda) Hoenstine; grandsons A-J (Jane) Hoenstine; Alex Hoenstine, Adam Weyant (Melissa), Doak Hoenstine and granddaughter Emily Hoenstine and four great grandsons Jeff Hoenstine, Jay Hoenstine, Collin Weyandt, Hudson Hoenstine and his mother Briana Cunningham, as well as a special friend Denise Musselman. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, a sister Nancy Burket, and grandson Nicholas Hoenstine. Ruth was the last of her immediate family.
She was a 1947 graduate of Claysburg High School and worked for many years as a nurse at the Claysburg Brickyard and for Dr. Schultz.
Ruth was a wonderful mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a terrific story teller and loved making people laugh. Fishing trips with her family and hunting camp were always things she cherished. She was interested in every person she ever met and always had at least one good question for them.
Her favorite thing in this world was watching her sons and grandsons; as well as their teammates compete in athletics. She loved keeping score and statistics at each event as well as giving her input on game strategy following the contest. Whether it was baseball, football, wrestling, or basketball she never missed a game and could often be seen in later years parked in her car as close as she could get to the venue. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Friends will be received from 3:00 P.M until the 6:00 P.M. funeral service on Wednesday February 16, 2022 at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg, with Pastor Jeff Knepper officiating. Interment at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
