SGT MGR Galen L. Musselman, passed away, Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home where he resided since November 2022, former resident of Bedford, PA.
He was born August 9, 1944 at the home of his Grandparents in Claysburg, PA, son of the late Chester D and Ethel S(Gardner) Musselman. He married Wanee Somranjit in Thailand on August 23, 1973.
Surviving is his wife Wanee, daughter Jennifer Musselman, grandson Ethan Demske and granddaughter Sophia Demske. Sisters Rosanna (Terry) Paul of Schellsburg, D. Jean Musselman of Bedford, Darlene K Tilson of Elkhart, TX, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother I. Myrl and wife Carol (Brumbaugh) Musselman, half-brother David Musselman, step dad Dorsey Musselman, brother-in-law Jerry Tilson and niece Kelley (Musselman) Hritz.
Galen graduated from Chestnut Ridge High School in 1963. He worked at the Cleveland Ohio Steel Mills before entering the military. Special Forces Sergeant Major Galen Musselman, Parachute Jump Master, who served 3 tours in Vietnam from 1967-1974, was awarded 2 bronze stars with valor, 2 Purple Hearts. He served his country with honor for 30 years, both overseas in numerous places around the world and state side at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Home of the Green Beret. He retired with honor August 31, 1994.
After retiring from the military Galen also worked for HR Block, for Shawnee State Park maintenance Dept. from 1995 to 2010. He enjoyed working with his brother Myrl, with the draft horses that were owned by his stepdad and Mother, at the Bedford fair and the PA State Farm show. Galen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed by all.
Friends will be received from 2-6 pm in Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg, PA.
Funeral Services will be the Upper Claar Church of the Brethren (where he was a member) at 405 Upper Claar RD, Claysburg, PA, on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 11:00 am, with viewing 1 hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
