Shirley M. Young

Shirley M. Young, 75, of Duncansville, passed away Monday June 26, 2023 at UPMC-Altoona. She was born July 22, 1947 in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late William F. Yingling Jr. and Alma (Martz) Yingling. She married Lawrence Young and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sisters Nancy Yingling and Jane Baird (John), brother-in-law Jim Chappell, four nephews Josh (Brittany), Jared (Kaitlin) and Jonathan (Paige) Baird and Jeremy (Tara) Chappell, great niece Raelynne, great nephew Beckett and another great nephew Larrett, due in July. She was preceded in death by a sister Karen Chappell and a nephew Bryan Chappell.

Shirley attended Dry Run Independent Baptist Church. She was a 1966 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She retired as a nanny in 2010 and was previously employed at the Juniata Silk Mill and Altoona Shoe Factory.

Shirley enjoyed sewing and activities at the Blair Senior Center, especially adult coloring.

Friends will be received from 3 P.M. until the 5:00 P.M. funeral service on Saturday July 1, 2023 at the Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom, with Pastor John Leatherman officiating. Interment at Dry Run Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Dry Run Independent Baptist Church.
